The Registered Nursing (RN) program at Allegany College of Maryland, like most ADN/ASN programs, is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become competent and compassionate registered nurses. This program typically spans two years and prepares graduates to provide direct patient care in a variety of healthcare settings. The curriculum is rigorous and encompasses theoretical coursework, laboratory simulations, and extensive clinical practice. Students learn about anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-child health, mental health, and community health nursing. A key goal is to develop students’ critical thinking, clinical judgment, and communication abilities to ensure safe and effective patient care. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), and upon passing, become licensed Registered Nurses, qualified to practice in Maryland and other states.
