The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program at Northern Maine Community College prepares students to become competent and compassionate registered nurses (RNs). This rigorous program combines classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical experiences to provide a well-rounded education. Students learn essential nursing skills, including assessment, medication administration, wound care, and patient education. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, such as anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and nursing ethics. A strong emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking skills and the ability to make sound clinical judgments. Clinical rotations provide hands-on experience in various healthcare settings, allowing students to apply their knowledge under the supervision of experienced nurses. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), the standardized exam required for licensure as a registered nurse. Passing the NCLEX-RN allows graduates to practice as registered nurses and provide direct patient care in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare settings.
