An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program, also sometimes called an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), typically prepares students to become entry-level registered nurses (RNs). These programs usually take two years of full-time study to complete and combine classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experience. The curriculum covers essential nursing concepts, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, patient assessment, and various medical specialties. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to clinical rotations, where students gain practical experience in diverse healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities, under the supervision of experienced nurses and faculty. A major goal of the program is to prepare students to pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), which is required to become a licensed RN. Graduates are then eligible to work as registered nurses and provide direct patient care, administer medications, educate patients and families, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care.
