A Registered Nursing (RN) program, like an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), prepares students for entry-level practice as registered nurses. The program provides a foundation in nursing theory, science, and clinical practice. Students learn to assess patients, develop and implement nursing care plans, administer medications, educate patients and families, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals. The curriculum typically includes courses in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-child health, mental health nursing, and community health nursing. A significant portion of the program is dedicated to clinical experiences, allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world healthcare settings under the supervision of experienced nurses and faculty. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Passing the NCLEX-RN is required for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Hartnell College’s RN program strives to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary to provide safe, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care to diverse patient populations.
