The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), sometimes referred to as an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN), program at institutions like the University of Antelope Valley is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become registered nurses (RNs). This program typically spans two years and encompasses a blend of theoretical coursework and practical clinical experiences. Students learn the fundamentals of nursing, including patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, and disease management. Clinical rotations expose students to diverse patient populations and healthcare settings, allowing them to apply their knowledge under the supervision of experienced RNs. A key focus is on developing critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, as well as effective communication and teamwork skills. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Passing the NCLEX-RN is required to obtain licensure and practice as a registered nurse.
